OKAY PLAYER: Valerie June Shares New Video For Powerful Track, “Shakedown”

Get familiar with the name, Valerie June, Mainstream America. The electric dynamo has come right in the nick of time with a strong batch of original songs. One of which, “Shakedown,” makes its music video debut courtesy today.  A highly anticipated offering from her second full-length solo album, The Order of Time, the Steven Lippman-directed clip features Val and her band locked-in-step, flooded in blue-and-green lighting. A tribute to her father, Emerson Hockett, who contributed vocals to “Shakedown,” passed away late last year.

In what has been a heavy year for all of us humans, Valerie June’s “Shakedown” absorbs us with riddims and performance, while weaving in solid songwriting and sounds. All of this has emboldened The Order of Time, as Val includes 12 original songs touching on relatable subjects such as love, family, struggle and the passing of time.
